FERAL CATS are truly wild. Even given a great effort, only a small minority are able to become comfortable anywhere near humans. The best thing for them is to be neutered and, if possible, placed as barn cats where they can "work" as rat and mice killers. The only other thing one can do, besides placing them back into the wild, is euthanize them, and I fail to see how that is humane. Feral cats do kill birds, but at the same time, they help keep the rodent population down, keeping disease causing rodents in check. Blame stupid pet owners who don't spay/neuter their pets for the overpopulation, not the animals.

Feral cats kill not only birds, but many other kinds of animals as well. Cats do not necessarily prey only upon rodents whose populations would not be overly high if farmers ran cleaner operations. In any case, it's far better for owls and snakes to keep rodents in check.
It's true that pet owners are to blame for the overpopulation of cats by not spaying/neutering their pets However, in the real world which is limited in many ways, overly numerous organisms need to be limited as well. And, sad as that may be, it includes feral cats.

It's not just feral cats. Even well fed house cats will decimate wildlife populations. I don't support TNR because it's inhumane to wildlife. Humane euthanasia is unfortunately necessary because there are simply too many cats. Yup, it all boils down to people, but that doesn't negate the fact that the cats are here and killing critters.

We must euthanize these animals, unfortunately. I don't like it either, but it is necessary sometimes. And I do blame the owners of pets that don't spay or neuter their pets, they are the root of the problem.

Feral cats have no place in the natural world. Irreperable harm is done by well-meaning, cat-loving people who think that neutering and innoculating cats and setting them loose in "cat farms" is a sweet thing to do. It is a miserably cruel thing to do...I have been through this ad nauseam. I can not imagine what I can do to be more specific. It matters not a wit where the blame lies. All feral cats should be exterminated. Period.

Feral cats are killing wildlife in my yard daily. I do not own cats, and I do not invite them in. I have a neighbor who "rescues" cats from the streets of Columbus, Ohio, and brings them to our rural town and releases them. What the coyotes and vehicles do not finish off, I have to deal with.
Catching the cats in a live trap is simple, what to do with them is not. The local media is set to pounce on anybody who is "cruel to animals." It costs $5 per cat to drop them off at the animal shelter, where they are probably re-released. Feral and roaming cats present a societal issue that confounds logical thinking. The first group that we must educate is the media, and then politicians. I am not sure if the animal rights groups will ever permit the idea of the elimination of roaming cats.
